This is our preliminary task on mobile phones

These are some of the pictures we took whilst filming our preliminary task.

Here are our storyboarded ideas of what our cutaways, interview and opening credits were going to look like.

For the task we had to come up with an idea for a documentary based on mobile phones. To plan we used an A3 sheet of paper and wrote down ideas such as the title and what is going to be in it. After we had come up with these we had to draw storyboards for the opening titles, cutaways and interview. Once these were done we started to film. As we had to interview a member of our group we chose Nicola, Amy filmed and I was in charge of the microphone. We then filmed our opening titles by getting different phones in a circle and filming around them. For our cutaways we got pictures and edited them on photoshop.
I feel the interview worked well as this was the first time we had filmed one and we got the codes and conventions for an interview almost perfect such as positioning of the interviewee. I also feel the music worked well as we chose 'Call on Me' by Eric Prydz which relates to the topic of mobile phones. One thing I think didn't work as well is the opening titles as it took us a while to get the shot right due to the fact it was hard to film. When watching it back on the computer we found the footage was still very shaky so decided to speed it up so that it looked like it was meant to be like this.
From doing this preliminary task I have learnt the importance of mise-en-scene and in the real documentary I will try and make sure it is done very cleverly and there is a clear link between interviewee and mise-en-scene. Also I have learned how to use Adobe Premiere Pro as before this I have never used it so when it come to the real thing I will feel confident in using it. My confidence with the recording equipment has also increased as I know understand how to use them to my advantage and how to set them all up. I will take this knowledge and use it in the real thing. I have also learned not to try and film something to demanding and hard and to know when an idea is not working and to look for alternative ways of getting my groups ideas across.
